Is sharepoint services 2.0 free? im confused, if it is, what is the diff between the one with fee? please help?

The reason why I am asking is because i am doing an evaluation about sharepoint services 2.0 to be used as our collaboration portal in the organization i am working for, I really need to know this, because I was able to install sharepoint services 2.0 on one of our servers without any license being asked. I was also even able to create a simple site on the site manager and it is fully functional. the thing is i know that sharepoint is a propeitary, so i want to know, is the one i got a free version? if it is, what is the difference between the paid version, i need this as a comparison, on my document. THANK YOU for all the help i can get.

Windows SharePoint Service (WSS) is free version, but Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) is paid version

Can I Installl SharePoint in XP?

I am trying to install SharePoint but it says that I have to have Windows Server as a OS in my computer… is there any way I can install SharePoint on XP?
