Love my new Microsoft arc mouse

Posted on 31 August 2011 by

I just got a new Microsoft arc mouse and I really like it. I’m down in New Orleans this week for TechEd USA so using it on random surfaces at the event and in my hotel and it’s been working great. I also like how the wireless works when presenting, unlike my previous mouse which would get overloaded with all the attendeed WIFI traffic making it unusable when presenting. The design is very appealing to me with the magnetic hold for the transceiver and the steel hinge to close it which also turns it off.

My new favourite travel mouse. My last favourite was this one but I would not use that in my office because it’s too small.

The City of London School for Girls makes life easier with SharePoint and their MIS system

Posted on 23 August 2011 by Tony

Theresa Clifford at cScape describes the City of London School for Girls as a prestigious, high-achieving, and independent school situated in the heart of London’s financial district. The SharePoint solution that cScape, led by MVP Ben Robb, helped the school design and implement lives up to the school’s reputation in many ways.

Theresa Clifford (Sales and Marketing Director, cScape) and Ben Robb (CTO, cScape)

The school is owned by the City of London, which recently redeveloped their intranet using SharePoint Server 2010, so this product was an easy choice to consider for the school. In the summer of 2010, the Director of IT, David Libby, and the former Data Systems Manager Matthew Brumpton began to implement a strategic plan to integrate the school’s data systems using SharePoint Server 2010. The requirements included exposing data and functionality from the education-specific MIS system through SharePoint sites ways that made it simple for students, staff, and parents to interact.

As a result of this work, all operations are now managed through the portal, including timetable management of classes, students, and rooms. Classroom sites are automatically created based on each class in the MIS system and permissions to these sites are automatically granted for the appropriate staff and students. Rooms and resources for other activities can be booked online. Students interact online with their peers to discuss class materials and submit homework and coursework. Parents are also able to see class materials and check on their child’s progress.

Read more about how cScape and Libby’s team implemented SharePoint on Technet.

The following design architecture illustrates the solution, including the virtual server environment and logical architecture:

how to enable edit page option in a sharepoint site?

Posted on 12 August 2010 by Tony

Can anyone help in out in enabling edit page option in a particular web page in a sharepoint site?

Chosen Answer:

You can’t “enable” editing for a page. The user has to have the correct permissions assigned to them before the Edit page option will appear. You’ll have to go into Site Settings, and under “Users and Permissions” click on Advanced Permissions”. Add the user or AD group to the “Design” SharePoint group. Or you could make your own permission level, create your own SharePoint group, and assign that permission level to the group. Then add the user(s) you want, and when they login they’ll see the “Edit Page” option in the “Site Actions’ menu.

You also have to make sure that the “Design” SharePoint group was given permissions to the site collection/web app.

Is Microsoft BizSpark suitable for web design/development start-up?

Posted on 09 February 2010 by Tony

I’m currently trying to start a small web design and development business on the side of my full time job – I’m working with C#, ASP.NET, SharePoint and Umbraco. My hope is that I can make it my full time job in the next few years, if it all works out.

I’ve been looking at software costs (as I work with almost completely Microsoft products) and the costs are very high to get visual studio, and some of the server software I’d like to use for development.

I have been looking into the BizSpark program, and its clearly a fantastic thing that Microsoft is doing, but I can’t quite work out if my business is appropriate / eligible for it?

What is SharePoint? Can you please describe in detail?

Posted on 29 December 2009 by

Chosen Answer:

Sharepoint is devastating club of using new programming of asp.net, html, css, java script.

Sharepoint is following new trend of the business development solution.

Details are:
Using a code in a developed software design. Like we type in a mic. word same we can type code in a software which itself takes the credit and gives only the output.

Never the less, it is tough but if I try if takes 4-5 months to grasp. But it is only business intelligence development tool alike not used for customer services or nor client side. It is a server side programming.

If you need be a sharepoint, then you need ASP. NET, HTML, COBOL, CSS, JavaScript, and family of coding.

Thanks
