pros and cons of making a website from: MS commerce server Endeca Sitecore (or Sharepoint) Telligent server?

Posted on 19 November 2008 by

My IT department has proposed building an e-commerce website using an architecture be comprised of these apps:

Microsoft commerce server
Endeca
Sitecore (or Sharepoint)
Telligent community server

I’d like to know some pros and cons of this type of architecture, as opposed to using a LAMP stack or other common architectures. The site is a fairly highly-trafficked database-driven site (over 30K hits per day).

Chosen Answer:

E-commerce is a pain in the A$$. I like Share point for external websites, users can update content easily. Plus it has a great work flow process.

Have a look at Google’s shopping cart and API for e-commerce.

Can you send attachments with Microsoft Sharepoint?

Posted on 10 July 2008 by

If you have groups of people all using Microsoft Sharepoint, can you post a message to all people in your group and add an attachment to that message?
Do you have any pros or cons that you’ve found using Sharepoint? Thanks!

Chosen Answer:

what i have done is to subscribe to the page and any updates are sent as links in an email. it doesn’t send the file – just the link but that is better given the purpose of sharepoint.

overall i like the tool, it is easy to manage and provides some structure to what is often just a mess of files in a shared drive somewhere.
